A SEA OF CREATIVITY IN SAN JOSE
A school of sharks invaded downtown San Jose on August 1, 2001. Similar in nature to "Cows on Parade" Art Exhibit in New York and Chicago, SharkByte Art will place 100 six-foot long fiberglass sharks on San Jose's sidewalks, parks and plazas while benefiting the non-profit organizations and arts programs. Local, regional, and national artists will take these life-sized shark molds and transform them into works of art by painting, welding, sculpting or adding mechanical features. The event will consist of an exhibition from August 1st to October 31st with an auction held at the end of the exhibition in mid-November. Artists that have submitted a design concept approved by an Artist Guideline Committee will commission all 100 sharks. Each artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium. Each shark sponsor will designate a non-profit organization to be named as its beneficiary. Ninety percent of the proceeds attained from shark sales at the November auction will be returned to the designated beneficiaries and local arts programs. SharkByte Art will be San Jose's largest outdoor art attraction for residents and visitors alike.
The Auction on
March 2, 2002 was very successful.
All 100 sharks have gone to their new homes...
