Lilith was one of the deities in ancient Sumerian mythology. She born before Adam, his first wife who did not want to be subordinate to him and ran away.
She set up house in the Red Sea with her seraphim and cherubim. She was demonized in the early Hebrew texts. To me she is a symbol of a woman's
strength and independence.
